There is one glaring difference between Christianity and all other beliefs about God and it is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I am not an expert on other beliefs but I do know that Christianity is the only belief system that says that Jesus Christ was and is God, that He lived on earth as fully human, yet fully God, and died as a sacrifice for the sins of all and physically resurrected from the dead to offer eternal life to all ask in faith.
I am not going to prove this to be true, I can’t. I am not going to disprove other beliefs, I can’t. What I will say is that this belief is the only one that puts the full pardon of sin on the work and mercy of God and takes all ability of affect our standing in the eyes of God totally out of the hands of man, short of accepting Christ’s work on the cross as the way of redemption.
God loves His creation. As the only part of creation that was created in His image, He has a special love for humanity. In His divine wisdom and mercy, He made a way for humanity to be reconciled to Him and this way is flawless, simple, and acceptable.
Some have said that “A loving God would not make only one way into heaven.” I say that this would be the perfect answer of a loving God making it simple. “Enter Here.” Humans use this method all the time to provide security for events that need to limit or monitor who enters. We use it to ensure accurate counts of all who have proper credentials and we never question the love of those who use this method here on earth. Many parents will secure all but one door for the use of their children.
Indeed this is the best way. If there were many ways to get into heaven, it would be much easier to counterfeit. The US Mint only uses one design to produce the hundred dollar bill, not many. Jesus is the only way that God has made for us to get to heaven. It is quite simple.
The flawlessness comes from the resurrection. This cannot be duplicated or counterfeited. Only God has the power to give life and He can give it because He is Life. This is like a watermark in currency or the wax seal of the king to authenticate the origination of a document.
The acceptability is because this was God’s plan and His alone. Man attempts to be good enough for God through religions that he creates. Man puts together elaborate rituals and things that emphasize good deeds. God knows that our sin will penetrate any religion that we create and therefore made a way acceptable to Him.
He became a man. He lived the sinless life. He died for our sins. He rose from the grave. He said this was good enough.
So this Easter, don’t kill the rabbit. Dye all the eggs. Eat all the candy and remember that the tummy ache will be better in the morning. But please don’t forget that when Jesus was killed, He died on the cross. He took 3 days, the when that morning came things were better than candy. God’s plan of redemption was complete.
